Project Quality Assurance and Quality Control

CalMod.jpg

Completion: 2023

Estimated Construction: $2.21 Billion

  • Electrification of 51 miles of track

  • Conversion of diesel-hauled trains to electric trains

The Caltrain Modernization Program will serve cities within the San Francisco Peninsula Corridor and Silicon Valley Areas. CalMod will electrify the corridor via an Overhead Catenary System from San Francisco’s 4th and King Caltrain Station to Tamien Caltrain Station in San Jose. In addition, it will phase out diesel-hauled trains & replace them with new EMU trains, featuring improved service times via faster acceleration & shorter headways, an addition of a positive train control system, and reduction in noise & air pollution. It will also facilitate a future railway tunnel to downtown San Francisco’s Transbay Transit Center.
